Wild Rose Cleanse 1 Week Later....

Its been one week since I finished my very first cleanse, ever! The Wild Rose D-Tox. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanse. It was challenging but I definitely felt more energetic and healthier. I was concerned about the first week post cleanse because I've heard some horror stories about getting sick. The transition back may have been easier for me because I already eat fairly close to "cleanse friendly" anyways. I have added back dairy, whole wheat breads and mom's cookies :)

The first day post cleanse I binged a little. It was hard not to because I wasn't at home where I could better control my intake. Several glasses of wine, lasagna, garlic bread and salad, oh and you cant forget the iced cupcake... ugh! Surprisingly I didn't feel sick at all. Guilty though... definitely guilty. Once mom's cookies are gone I'll be continuing the diet quite closely. I will be adding back bananas and some other fruits I love like mango, pineapple and kiwi. And as stated before whole wheat breads/wraps and low fat dairy.

My parents ordered Olive Garden for dinner and never in my life has pasta been so unappealing! I hardly crave breads anymore, they are simply an easy vehicle for certain foods ie- sandwiches, breakfast wraps etc etc

----------------------------------------------

Its now Jan 27 and I'm really shocked at how my cravings are still at bay! Its like I have a whole new level of self control. I hardly want chocolate, rarely crave pasta or bread, dont really even want to drink anymore. This cleanse put such a positive spin back on my life! Anyone who needs a kick start should do this cleanse, and stick to it religiously. You will find self control your never knew you had!

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 11 of 12

Day 11 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
129.6 (down 3.4lbs)(up 1.2lbs from yesterday)

Measurements:
32-28-37.5

Mood: Rested (thank goodness!)

Food Diary:
Breakfast: Strawberries.  2 rice cakes with hummus
Snack:  Apple
Lunch: Quinoa with peas, corn, tomato and egg (not the best thing I've made, more b/c I had a lack of food in the fridge)
Snack:
Dinner: Steel cut oats. Added chopped almonds, frozen berries, apple sauce, cinnamon and ground flax.
Dessert:

Overall: Stomach cramping this morning and lightheaded. After noon I felt better and have felt good since. I honestly believe that part of the crummy feeling has to do with the extra early mornings and choppy sleep I've had. They must be catching up with me.

I've decided that a week from tomorrow (last day of cleanse) I will do a recap of how the first week post cleanse went and how it was reintroducing certain foods to my diet.

Tomorrow will be a challenge as I'm travelling home to visit friends and family.  We'll see how that goes!

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 10 of 12

Day 10 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
128.4 (down 4.6lbs)(up 0.4lbs from yesterday)

Measurements:
32-28-37.5

Mood: AM: kill me now! ( I didnt sleep much) PM: neutral

Food Diary:
Breakfast: Apple, 2 rice cakes with almond butter
Snack:

Snack:
Dinner: whole bowl from Chopped Leaf (spinach, brown rice, sunflower seeds, avocado, chicken and tahini)
Dessert: smoothie

Overall: My stupid cat kept waking me up last night, barging into my room once at 11 then again at midnight. I had an awful sleep and it certainly affected how I feel today. Lightheaded and stomach cramping this morning. YUCK! Disappointing to have such a crummy day when the past few have been so great! I wonder if it had anything to do with eating beef?

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 9 of 12

Day 9 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
128.0 (down 5lbs)

Measurements:
32-28-37.5

Mood: Feeling SO awesome!

Food Diary:
Breakfast: Strawberries. 2 rice cakes with almond butter
Snack: 2 hard boiled eggs
Lunch: Leftover Halibut, rice and beets
Snack:
Dinner: Homemade chili (extra lean ground beef, onion, white beans, tomato, 1 tbsp ground cumin, 4tsp chili powder)
Dessert: frozen raspberries

Overall: I've decided now that because this is going so well for me its going to be a semi annual routine. And I am definitely keeping a lot of the diet in place. I find I'm not eating as much as I did in the beginning and I think it has everything to do with the fact that I don't crave anything anymore, therefore I'm not trying to satiate a craving with other foods.

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 8 of 12

Day 8 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
128.8 (down 4.2lbs)(no change from yesterday)

Measurements:
32-28-37.5

Mood: happy and clear minded

Food Diary:
Breakfast: The usual smoothie
Snack: Apple
Lunch: 2 rice cakes with avocado, hummus and tomato
Snack: Hardboiled egg
Dinner: Salmon with fresh thyme on top, roasted cauliflower and asparagus tossed in olive oil garlic and shallots, quinoa seasoned with chicken boullion and thyme (a little goes a long way)
Dessert: frozen raspberries

Overall: I am feeling so great! Each day just gets better and better. No cravings, no headaches, no stomach cramps, even the laxative effect is a million times better. I am at the point of highly reccomending this cleanse to anyone who can truly stick to its guidelines.

When I was a teenage I, for whatever crazy reason, completely gave up candy and was able to find the sweet craving satisfaction in an apple. I feel like this cleanse has taken me right back to that spot and in much less time. I have been fantasizing about what I'll eat when I'm done (theres a big box of ferrero rochers waiting for me) but honestly I think I will be continuing the diet plan. I will be adding back whole grain breads and other meats as well as peanut butter! I just feel so good I want to keep it going :)

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 7 of 12

Day 7 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
128.8 (down 4.2lbs)

Measurements:
32-28-37.5

Mood: little moody (other factors in my life, not cleanse related)

Groceries: $43 and I walked out with the following:

Halibut fillet
Apples
Hummus
Rice Cakes
Strawberries
Frozen berries (1 bag mixed, 1 bag raspberries)
Cucumber
Almond Milk (unsweetened)
Can of Corn

Food Diary:
Breakfast: The usual smoothie but added some apple sauce this time (cuts through the almond taste)
Snack:none (didn't eat til noon)
Lunch: 3 rice cakes with Hummus and Avocado, strawberries
Snack:
Dinner: Halibut, beets and brown rice
Dessert:

Overall: My sugar cravings are gone. I have no desire to eat anything candy like, I could still mow down chocolate because I love it, but I don't crave it. Also, fruit is now the substitute for sugar. The strawberries today seemed so sweet that they are my "sugary treat". I'm shocked at how quickly it changed for me. The morning dizziness seems to be better too. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with being able to sleep in today and yesterday so when I'm up at 5am tomorrow I'll be sure to note how I feel. No stomach cramps today either!

Saturday 7 January 2012

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 6 of 12

Day 6 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Food Diary:
Breakfast: apple with almond butter
Snack: popcorn

Snack:
Dinner: quinoa, veggies

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 5 of 12

Day 5 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
129.6 (down 3.4lbs)

Measurements:
32-28-37.5

Mood: Feeling great! :) best day yet

Groceries: ran out of frozen fruit today. 2 bags lasted 5 days. I've also eaten all my rice cakes (12 in 5 days)

Food Diary:
Breakfast: Smoothie
Snack: 2 rice cakes, each topped with hummus, and slice of tomato
Lunch: Sauteed carrots with dill, and tossed in some baby potatoes too
Snack: Frozen raspberries
Dinner: quinoa, more rice cakes with avocado and hummus
Dessert:

Overall: I've noticed over the past 5 days the mornings are the challenging. I feel almost light headed, only its my whole body. For the ladies reading, when you blow dry your hair or style it with your arms up for too long, that feeling of tingling in your arms is how my whole body feels. I would imagine its simply because my blood sugars are probably low in the morning. I find having fruit for breakfast is best for me.

I have it down to a science in terms of stomach aches now too. Each morning and evening after I take the pills I get an upset stomach. Again most of these are not major, but there have been a few that make me want to curl up into a ball. Its come to be something I expect. I suspect taking 1 instead of 2 of the Laxaherb would help that but if the only issue I run into is a stomach ache I dont really consider that a huge deal.

End of tomorrow marks the half way point!!!!

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 4 of 12

Day 4 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Dessert:

Overall: This is definitely the best day so far. Cravings aren't awful, stomach and headaches are better and I have an overall better feeling. I even had the energy to clean and reorganize my house for 5 hours.

Wednesday 4 January 2012

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 3 of 12

Day 3 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight:
130.2 (down 2.8lbs)

Measurements:
32-28-38

Mood: Less energetic, a touch grumpy.

Food Diary:
Breakfast: smoothie made from frozen berries, unsweetened almond milk, ground flax
Snack: Almonds
Lunch: 2 rice cakes, each topped with hummus, avocado and a tomato
Snack: Celery, carrot and cauliflower with hummus. Hard boiled egg. Almonds
Dinner: Halibut and boiled baby potatoes
Dessert: frozen raspberries (my fav even when I'm not cleansing!)

New Beverage:  Make a big batch of green tea. Allow it to cool. Put it in a jug, toss in slices of ginger and lemon. In all honestly, a little honey would make this awesome!!!! but its still yummy without.

Overall: This is easily my least favourite day so far. The drops are tasting gross and I could kill for a peice of bread or chocolate. I'm feeling a bit irritable today as well. Spending all day in my bed is so tempting. I had stomach aches this morning and headaches this evening. My mood lightened after going to the gym tonight.

My skin is starting to break out but the book reassures me that it will clear up soon so here's hoping! I'm losing my patience with all the pills and the damn drops. Sometimes I just want to mow down on my breakfast or dinner instead of having a few bites, taking pills, then continuing...

Tuesday 3 January 2012

Wild Rose Cleanse day 2 of 12

Day 2 of my Wild Rose Cleanse

Weight: 131lbs (down 2 lbs)
Measurements: 32-28-38

Mood: Happy and energetic, still optimistic

Food Diary:
Breakfast: smoothie made from frozen berries, unsweetened almond milk, ground flax and a dollop of almond butter
Snack: Celery and Carrot stick with hummus, an apple, 1 hard boiled egg sprinkled with a little Mrs.Dash salt free seasoning, and some almonds
Dinner: leftovers :) Dill and lemon salmon, roasted cauliflower, brown rice, hard boiled egg.
Dessert: frozen raspberries (my fav even when I'm not cleansing!)

Overall: I woke up today with a stomach ache, nothing unmanageable and certainly no where near the aches I have had in the past with lactose issues. Shortly after eating dinner I had a small headache, again no big deal. It seems the drops tasted much worse tonight, not sure why. Having my veggies precut is making staying full really easy! Prepared on the go snacks are a MUST! The normal post dinner tummy grumbles are definitely amplified on this program lol.

*** quick addition: just before going to bed last night I had a short but uncomfortable stomach ache. The worst so far. :(

Wild Rose Cleanse Day 1 of 12

The month of December brought indulgence into my life to say the least. I enjoyed my holiday time to the fullest extent and am ready to get back on the health train. To kick start my new year I've decided to do the Wild Rose Cleanse. I chose this particular one because I know several people who have done it and YOU CAN EAT!

I tried to do a lot of research in terms of recipes and other experiences and didnt stumble upon very much. Its out there but well I just wasnt satisfied with it all. Over the next 12 days I am going to document my experience and in a short and quick read fashion. I'll cover grocery items and the cost, what I eat each day, how I am feeling both physically and mentally (dont worry I'll leave the laxative effect out of this), the results including inches and pounds. Any other interesting or unexpected results will also be included.

So lets get into it!

Starting Point:
133lbs  (i think)

Mood: Optimistic

Food Diary:
Breakfast: Smoothie made from frozen berries, unsweetend almond milk and ground flax
Snack: 2 Hardboiled eggs, sliced and sprinkled with dill and pepper
Snack: Celery and carrot sticks with hummus. Added a rice cake to dip in the hummus as well.
Dinner: Salmon with dill and lemon, brown rice and cauliflower roasted with garlic, shallots and lemon
Snack: Frozen raspberries

I purchased groceries for the week today. Cost was about $85 and included the following items:
  • Hummus
  • Apples
  • Avocados
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Frozen berries
  • Almond Milk (unsweetened)
  • Almonds
  • Halibut
  • Salmon
  • Lemons
  • Garlic
  • Shallots
  • Beets
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Rice Cakes
  • Natural Popcorn
Overall:
I'm happy with how the first day has gone. I was worried about the pills and drops but they honestly arent awful. I choose to put the drops in a shot glass and add a bit of water. I did notice a slight "spacey" feeling this morning after I took the pills. I havent had any food issues yet although the cookies from my mom are taunting me so they now live in the freezer. Towards the end of the night (about 9pm) I got a mild stomach ache. Nothing unmanageable though.
